The Drink: Jamin Java from Marley Coffee Type: Whole Bean Roast/Body: Full City Roast with a Full Body Overall Rating: 4 out of 5
The next stop in my Marley Coffee adventure is Jammin Java, an organic dark roast coffee with a nod to Bob Marley’s song Jaming. I can’t promise that this coffee will have you dancing around your kitchen, but it woke me up on a gloomy Monday morning and made me feel like nothing could stop me – besides empty mugs.
The first thing to hit me was the dark and smoky aroma that rose out of my coffee cup and into my nose. It was the smell of a simmering campfire, the glowing coals the next morning, relaxing with a warm feeling.
The taste was anything but relaxing. The bold, dark taste was strong enough to wake me up instantly. At the same time, it was unexpectantly smooth. Many dark roasts that I’ve tasted had a bitter taste, but this one had just a hint of bitterness with the first sip.
I’m not usually a fan of dark roasts, but I enjoyed this one because it lacked the burnt taste and the flavors weren’t roasted out of it. A warm chocolate taste, like a cup of hot chocolate greeted my tongue. There was also a hint of a woody flavor that gave it a mature feeling.
This coffee left a crisp fresh feeling taste on my tongue after every sip. It was a taste worth savoring and made me look forward to the next sip.
Jamin Java earned a four out of five rating. It’s one of the better coffees that I’ve tasted in the last few months. I would’ve liked it even more if it was a little less dark, but if you like darker roasts, you have to try this one.
It’s now my second favorite from Marley Coffee, the first being Mystic Morning. As I said, there’s not many dark roasts that I like, in fact I avoid them because many are so over roasted, but this one makes me want to go out and try others.
The next destination in my Marley Coffee adventure is their organic Swiss water decaf, Simmer Down. I’m nervous about this one, I drink coffee for the taste and the caffeine benefits. I’ve never had decaf willingly, but if it’s like the other Marley Coffees, I have nothing to fear.
The Drink: Yemen Ameera From Paradise Roasters Type: Whole Bean Overall Rating: 4.25 Out Of 5 Cups
Today I’m drinking Yemen Ameera And Trade from Paradise Roasters, courtesy of ROASTe. With a score of 92 out of 100, Ameera is the highest rated Yemen coffee according to Coffee Review. That alone is pretty impressive, but if you haven’t figured it out, I’m not like other coffee reviewers. I think you could say that I’m slight more independent (the nice way of putting it) with my ratings, however I have to agree, this was one of the best coffees that I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking.
Be warned, Yemen coffee beans are smaller than most beans from other parts of the world. I was a little bit concerned about how that would affect the taste until I did a little research and found out that it was perfectly normal for Yemen beans.
The Ameera has a light roast, with the grounds coming out of the coffee grinder looking a tan, almost orange color. The ground beans alone smelled delicious, I couldn’t wait to brew it in my French Press.
The coffee had a sweet, wine like aroma. It was a fruity mix of grapes and somewhat floral like a flower shop. But don’t worry, it wasn’t overwhelming smell, they both combined perfectly.
Just like the smell, the coffee was sweet tasting. It was almost like maple syrup mixed with strawberries. They described it as also having a taste of roasted hazelnuts, dark chocolate and cinnamon, which I did taste hints of each as well. The chocolate stood out, a more mature chocolate taste like a dark chocolate rather than a chocolate cake.
There was a lingering after taste on my tongue that was smooth and relaxing, almost tasting like tea. For you tea drinkers, if you’re looking for a coffee to try, this is the one.
This was an amazing coffee, 4.25 out of 5 rating. It does run $20 a pound, but it’s definitely worth it. It’s a special coffee perfect for special occasions with friends or family.
Based in Ramsey, Minnesota, Paradise Roasters roasts their coffee to order, saying that if you order coffee today, they’ll roast and ship it tomorrow.
Food & Wine magazine listed them in the top-ten boutique coffee roasters of the United States and National Geographic included them in their book Passport to the Best: The 10 Best of Everything as one of the ten best coffees in the world.
Paradise Coffee is available through ROASTe, an online marketplace for coffee. They sell coffee from some of the best roasters in the country, coffee gifts, coffee makers and have an active coffee community.
