Starbucks Red Holiday Cup

My favorite holiday coffee is the Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks. I try to consume as much as I possibly can for the short time that is available and debate starting a petition to demand that it be on the menu year round.

When I found out that Dunkin Donuts was adding their own peppermint mocha to their menu, I immediately started planning a head to head competition.

I’ve had some poor customer service experiences at Dunkin Donuts in the past. I even imposed my own boycott, but I was willing to venture there again to try their Peppermint Mocha

However, the problems started the second that I pulled into the drive thru and asked for the peppermint mocha. They asked if I wanted it as a hot coffee or…their microphone cut out.

I asked for a latte. The Dunkin Donuts press release that I read about the Peppermint Mocha even called the drink a Latte, but I’m not sure that the employee working the drive thru had ever heard of a latte.

After more inaudible communication, I pulled up to the drive thru window and found a iced coffee waiting for me. Don’t know where they got iced coffee out of that, especially since it was the coldest night of the year. I debated asking them to redo it, but I had already given up.

Rant over, now to the good stuff.

The Drink: Dunkin Donuts Peppermint Mocha

The first sips of Dunkin Donuts latte were heavy on the mint flavor, with minimal chocolate flavor because it was all on the bottom. The mint tasted a lot like a toothpaste.

After the flavor mellowed out some, it tasted just like a regular iced coffee. I’m pretty sure they didn’t even attempt to blend it together.

Overall Rating: Two Out Of Five Coffee Cups. That’s not including points that should be taken off for my poor customer service experience.

The Drink: Starbucks Peppermint Mocha

The Starbucks Peppermint Mocha was just like I remembered. It’s like their regular mocha, but with just a hint of peppermint. The peppermint isn’t overwhelming and it blends perfectly with the rest of the drink.

As an added bonus, the Starbucks people were friendly, although maybe a little too over caffeinated.

Overall Rating: Four Out Of Five Coffee Cups.

It looks like I’ll be continuing with the Starbucks Peppermint Mocha as part of my holiday tradition.

Have you tried one or both? What’s your opinion on them?

Coffee And Conservation: No proof of shade coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts
About the only thing that I liked about my last trip to Dunkin Donuts was that drink was made with Rain Forest Alliance certified coffee, but this article says “When it comes to supporting the environment, Americans should run from Dunkin’.”

Brewed Coffee: Have You Ever “Double-cupped” At Dunkin?
We can’t directly blame Dunkin Donuts for this non-earth friendly trend, but apparently a lot of people who buy the cold Dunkin Donut Drinks are using two cups, one one plastic, one styrofoam to keep their hands dry. Seems like a really good way to add more styrofoam to our landfills, just what we needed.
