POMx Vanilla – What I’m Drinking

by Mike on October 14, 2009 in Coffee Reviews

The Drink: POMx Vanilla
Type: Iced Coffee meets Health Drink in a bottle
Overall Rating: 2.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Cups

Before my workout today and this time I actually went for a run, I tried the third and final POMx Iced Coffee flavor – Vanilla.

The POMx Iced Coffee was sent to me for review by PomWonderful, a company that makes health conscious drinks with pomegranate. For the Vanilla flavor, they use Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica beans, vanilla beans, reduced fat milk and organic sugar cane. The result is a drink that they say is full of anti-oxidants and will give you a healthy buzz.

I liked the Chocolate flavor, it reminded me of a Yoo Hoo, but more healthy and with a coffee kick. The Cafe au Lait flavor was drinkable although the coffee taste was a little off.

The aroma was a mix of vanilla, some mint and the smell of cough medicine. The other flavors didn’t have that and it’s safe to say that it threw me off some.

It tasted like a sweet vanilla latte. I wouldn’t have complained if the coffee taste was stronger in this one.

The vanilla flavor dominated the first sip, but as I drank more of it, a fruity flavor mixed in. It was almost like a yogurt.

As far as the after taste, it was just a little off to me. Really hard to put into words for me, but I’ll just say it was a little weird.

The Vanilla flavor gets a slightly below average 2.5 out of 5 rating. I think the Chocolate is going to stay my favorite. It had a balanced taste of chocolate and coffee. I like these POMx Iced Coffee drinks overall, they definitely have a caffeine kick that I loved and are probably more healthy then the calorie filled latte drinks that I love from Starbucks.

You can check out the POMx Iced Coffees online at http://www.healthybuzzz.com or in the produce aisle at your grocery store.

POMx Cafe au Lait

The Drink: POMx Cafe au Lait
Type: Iced Coffee meets Health Drink in a bottle
Overall Rating: Three Out Of Five Coffee Cups

Before my workout today and by workout, I mean watching the New York Yankee’s playoff game, I tried another POMx Iced Coffee. This time it was the Cafe au Lait, I enjoyed it, but I think they were trying a little too hard with the coffee flavor on this one.

The POMx Iced Coffee comes from PomWonderful, a company that makes health conscious drinks with pomegranate. For the Cafe au Lait, they mix in dark Italian-roasted Arabica beans, reduced fat milk and organic sugar cane. The result is a drink that they say is full of anti-oxidants and will give you a healthy buzz. I’m sure it’ll make coffee snobs nervous, but I liked the Chocolate flavor, so I couldn’t wait to try the Cafe au Lait.

When I reviewed the Chocolate flavor, I wrote that it tasted a lot like the Starbucks Double Shot, but after tasting the Cafe Au Lait, I’d say that this flavor is even more similar. The only major difference is a fruity, healthy kick in the POMx.

The Cafe au Lait had a much stronger coffee taste then the Chocolate flavor. It had a bold dark roast taste, mixed in with chocolate milk and hints of fruit. The fruit flavor reminded me of blackberries and raspberries.

The weak point came in the after taste. It had the dark roast taste that I liked, but it was too bitter. It was still drinkable, but it did lose some points.

The POMx Cafe Au Lait is okay, but not great – earning it a three out of five on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale.

So far, if I had to pick just one of the POMx drinks, it would be the Chocolate flavor. While it was a little overall the top like it was a YooHoo drink, it had a higher drinkability. I still have one more flavor to try, the Vanilla, which is sometimes my favorite coffee flavor.

If you want to try it for yourself, you can find POMx Iced Coffee in the produce aisle at the grocery store, or online at http://www.healthybuzzz.com
