A PhotoMeditation is Holistically Photo walking to practice and improve one’s own photography skills, attempting to get beyond the reflexive, “thinking” mind and into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness.
During these PhotoMeditations, I like to visit coffee shops I have not been to before. Unlike New Jersey, my home state, New York Is filled with coffee shops. I got to visit three. Being that I started so early in the morning my first coffee options were limited. I had two places in mind, they were still closed and that’s how I found my first cup of coffee.
I had my first cups of Coffee at a shop called ‘The Roasting Plant. There they have coffee which sits in tubes, are vacuumed into the roaster, and back into the tubes. It’s a very ‘technical’ way to roast coffee. The Coffee was decent and there were good bean choices. It’s not a place I would visit often.
The next shop I visited was ‘La Bergamote’ A French Style Bakery. I tripped over this place. It was entirely by accident, one of the best mishaps of the day. The coffee, I have no detail on it, it was just excellent. The Baguette roll I had with it was basically delightful. I will visit this place again. I even have their business card.
The last cup of coffee I had was at Think Coffee, a place I have actually walked by dozens of times and never been in, so I finally took some time to go in. The Place had a nice vibe and had to be the best cup of coffee I had that day. It was their house blend. It’s nice to walk into a place some times and just ask for a cup of coffee and get a good cup of coffee. There was a decent menu there also, but I just needed coffee.
I have been making a list, on twitter and off, of coffee houses in NYC that I want to visit. Stay tuned for more coffee house reports.

I’ve been to The Roasting Plant as well. I had a nice cup of Yirgecheffe there, but the environment was very uncomfortable. Definitely not a place to visit often. The novelty of the vacuum tubes wear off quickly.
I never made it to Think, but I’ve heard good things. Love your photo from there!

I’d like to go there once to say I’ve been there and seen the tubes.
Great article…makes me wish we still had some of the great coffeehouses that once populated Little Rock, ah well, we still have Community Bakery and they serve some great coffee, along with dangerous pastries.
Ciao!

I’m right there with you, there’s a few great coffee houses here in the Tampa, but we need more.
it seems 2 out of 3 places delivered on the
great cup of coffee promise from this interesting
blog/post.
IF i had a coffee shop – bistro – deli i’d try
actually brewing single cups on the front
exterior of the shop. sort of a try it and taste
it without having to actually enter the store.
so many potential customers are rushed.
how to get their attention?’
walk by coffee.
in this area, there are a few delis and
rib places where you can stand at a door
in the front of the shop and buy food.
customers would love to sample or buy
coffee that way. plus passers by would be
jealous and envious and it would drive the
impulsive sale. i’ve never had a bad
Baguette roll …. being without one is bad.
is this the place?

and one of the commentors there said;
‘…The best napoleon in NYC, an utter masterpiece! There is no way to improve on their napoleon. The heavenly cream filling is sensational matched against the crisp layers of fresh pastry. No soggy, day old pastry here!! And, to take it to another level there are fresh raspberries inside the filling, and a slightly sweet top. Not too sweet, just right, actually it’s perfection. Yum!!!!…’
that sounds like it needs a daily shot of coffee to me Mike.
yep, looks MUCH better on the inside!
I’ve just recently been getting into coffee. I’ve always been a tea drinker, but I tried a vanilla coffee, and now I’m hooked!
Your coffee photos are wonderful! Since I started my food blog, I’m really paying attention to food and beverage photos. I look forward to reading your articles on photo tips.
