The K-Cup That Made Me Look At Folgers In A Whole New Light
No, really! When I think of Folgers, I think of the big huge red plastic canisters that I used to buy in bulk before I discovered the world of whole bean coffee. I think I was buying them for the caffeine content, rather than the taste of the coffee. However that all changed recently when I discovered that there was one K-Cup that made me look at Folgers in a whole new light.
The Drink: Millstone Hazelnut Cream
Type: Flavored K-Cup
Overall Rating: 3.25 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
The Millstone Hazelnut Cream had a sweet, hazelnut aroma with hints of chocolate.
The taste was a hazelnut flavor mixing with a dry nuttiness. Overall, it tasted like a medium roast.
The Hazelnut Cream falls into the very drinkable category because it had a delicious hazelnut taste. It earned a slightly above average 3.25 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee K-Cup scale.
The Drink: Folgers Gourmet Select Black Silk
Type: Dark Roast K-Cup
Overall Rating: Three Out Of Five Coffee Cups
Up next was the Folgers Gourmet Select Black Silk. I’m a medium roast drinker and the name of this coffee made me a little nervous.
Black Silk had a smoky, but smooth aroma. It was a very likable aroma, even for me.
However, the taste was just a little too much for my tongue. It had a nutty, ashy flavor that really didn’t stand out to me. It was also on the weak side for being a dark roast.
Overall, Black Silk earned an average three on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. I think dark roast drinkers would like it better than me, but there are better dark roast K-Cups out there.
The Drink: Millstone Breakfast Blend
Type: Medium Roast K-Cup
Overall Rating: 3.25 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
After the Black Silk, I had higher hopes for the Breakfast Blend.
The Breakfast Blend had a mild nutty aroma with hints of cinnamon and honey, inviting me to take that first sip.
The first sip was smooth with a medium roast flavor and hints of Golden Grahams. Yes, Golden Grams the cereal from the 80′s.
The Millstone Breakfast Blend earned a slight above average 3.25 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale.
The Drink: Folgers Gourmet Selects Lively Colombian
Type: Medium Roast K-Cup
Overall Rating: 3.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
The Lively Colombian was as described, full of life. It was a nutty aroma that woke up my nose right away.
The taste was just as “lively.” It was full of a delicious nutty flavor that kept my tongue guessing about what was coming next.
Overall, the Lively Colombian was my favorite K-Cup from this batch from Foldgers and Millstone and maybe one of the best K-Cups that I’ve ever had. It earned a well above average 3.5 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. If there’s more K-Cups out there like this one, I would love to try them. This is the one that made me look at Folgers in a whole new light.

Mike;
when i think of lively Columbians,
i immediately think of Shakira.
but maybe it’s a guy thing…
in truth i didn’t even know Folgers HAD
any K-cups; so this is news.
i have had pretty good luck with other
Columbian brews from K-cups at home.
if i can find this one, i’ll add it to my morning
or lunch time test drink list.
the hazlenut isn’t my thing and weak
dark roasted Silk…what the heck is that
all about? a coffee without soul!
i may pass on that one too.
question -> K-cups have small date best by
info stenciled on them. did the Black Silk show
an expired date? i’d be interested.
You made me with laugh with the Shakira comment, but I suppose she is pretty lively.
The Folgers K-cups are pretty new, I haven’t seen them in any of my local stores yet.
I’ll double check on the expiration date when I get home.
Re: the Folgers Black Silk. I completely agree. I was never a fan of Folgers.
I did a write-up on it here: http://www.foodpinions.com/folgers-black-silk-k-cup-coffee-for-keurig-brewers-review/
