The Perfect Treat For A Coffee Addict? Chocolate Enrobed Espresso Beans

When the East India Company offered to send me some samples to review, I assumed it was some of their coffee. However, you know what happens when you assume. I was a little bit disappointed at first, when I ripped open the box and found Plain Chocolate Enrobed Espresso Beans. Then I tried a couple of them and my disappointment quickly faded away.

According to the description on the East India Company website, their chocolate covered coffee beans are dark roasted Costa Rican Peaberry coffee beans dipped in plain chocolate.

I’m going to get all cliché on you, but I have to say the taste of these chocolate covered coffee beans were divine. It had a delicious rich chocolate outside with hints of sweet cherries and cinnamon, that balanced perfectly with the dark roast taste of the coffee bean.

I’ve had chocolate covered espresso beans before, but they can’t compare to these. For the most part, the ones that I’ve tasted in the past had a very bitter coffee taste. These were smooth tasting and I couldn’t stop at just one, it was a delicious snack.

My only minor complaint is the official name. There’s no such thing as espresso beans, ask Coffee Nate if you don’t believe me. Espresso is a type of coffee drink, not a type of bean. Minor, minor detail and after a couple more chocolate covered espresso beans, I forgot all about it.

I have to go now, I have to move the remaining beans away from where I’m sitting so I don’t eat all of them right now.

Fine Print.

the beans with chocolate coatings i’ve tried
must have been really good ones Mike.
they all were ..very pleasing, delectable; splendid: even scrumptious…’

the complaint i have about beans is that they do tend to
‘grit up’ in my mouth. i can only munch them with something
to rinse! these sound as good as any i’ve tried.
i love the bag / package art.
way down on the front cover it says Dark Belgium chocolate.
    that’s the decadent stuff.

That’s the word! Decadent. Great way to describe it. These were a treat and not much of the grit. I know what you’re talking about. These were more like candy.

one idea i’ve had and have never taken the time to
check out Mike is to test soak/marinate chocolate beans
in various forms of liquors or aqua-vie’s and then
coat them with chocolate. a moist bean might
be less gritty or just maybe more delicious.

That’s something I might have to try next time I make them myself. Even if it isn’t much less gritty, I bet it would be more delicious, like you said!
