When I lived in Chicago I was very spoiled, there were coffee shops on just about every corner. Then a year ago, I moved to the Tampa area and it seems that Floridians don’t drink coffee because good, independent coffee shops are hard to find. There’s still Starbucks on every corner and Dunkin Donuts along every busy road, but I’ve only had minimal luck finding anything else.
Then I stumbled across Delocator.net, a site to find independently owned stores in your area. I found it completely by accident, I was googling Starbucks (yes, I was googling Starbucks and no I don’t know why) when I noticed Delocator listed further down on the search results page.
Delocator gave more than a few coffee shops in the area to check out, 25 to to be exact. I’ve never heard of most of them, so it should keep me busy for a while.
You can also use Delocator to find independent book stores, movies, music and organic food stores.
I definitey recomend that you try this site out and see what you can find.

You’re right, I’ve started to find more and more local coffee shops, but none of the ones I’ve found roast their own beans. I am going to keep looking.
I live in florida, and it’s not that coffee is hard to come by, it’s more so that Florida gets extremely hot, normally all year round, so hot coffee isn’t a must like northern places, such as Chicago, but with the market for coffee growing ever so much in the south there will be more coffee shops, but most likely starbucks type shops, not local roasters. Although i have found a local roasting shop near myself, while i was on a drive with my girlfriend and her mother.
I think the closest one to me is 2.5 miles, but I think it doesn’t even exist anymore because I’ve been down that street a million times and never saw it.
I lived in Miami for a while and there weren’t many coffee shops around. I mostly brewed my own. I put in my zip on delocator and there are a lot of independents within a 1/2 mile.
