Visiting The Other Side: 70% Robusta Tradicional From Cafe Tabom
The Drink: Tradicional From Cafe Tabom
Type: Whole Bean Blend
Overall Rating: 2.5 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
Next up from Cafe Tabom is their Tradicional. I’ll admit that I was a little nervous about this one. It’s made of 70% robusta (generally the lower quality of the two types of coffee beans) and only 20% of the higher quality arabica beans. Plus, a quick look at the beans inside of the bag, and it’s safe to say they don’t look like the cream of the crop.
However, I won’t judge a book by it’s cover. It’s still follows the same environmental policies as it’s sister bean the Superior. It’s Carbon Neutral Certified and ISO 9001, 140001, 22000 certified. (Read more about exactly what that means here.)
Smooth flavor and body. Pleasant aroma with a full crema in a well- balanced cup.
-Cafe Tabom description.
Tradicional greeted my nose with a nutty, earthy aroma that I have to admit is kind of the weak side. I kept smelling my cup of coffee, wondering if there was anything else there that I was missing.
It starts off with a smooth flavor as mentioned in the description, but it is on the weak side. And that smoothness is followed by a bitterness in the end part of the sip that lingered on my tongue.
On the pleasant side of things, it had a sweet flavor that was loaded with a nutty flavor. However, that was followed by a dark hole of flavor, not over roasted in flavor, but it didn’t taste great either. Plus, there was a bit of tartness that took off a couple of points.
You can buy two pounds for $12.00 if you try out Tradicional for yourself. Email them at sales.us@cafetabom.com for more details. Also, you can find their coffees on Ebay.
Overall, Tradicional from Cafe Tabom earned a slightly below average 2.5 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but it is below average. More like the kind of coffee I expect when I’m at McDonalds, but slightly above gas station coffee.
While this wasn’t my favorite, I’m looking forward to trying their 100% arabica coffee Gourmet next.

Sounds Like A Perfect Candidate For The Vietnamese Phin Filter, As Well As The Turkish Ibirik. Maybe A Good Espresso
I Mention The Phin & Ibrik, Because Mainly Drinkers Use Sugar N Those Two Methods To Even Out The Edges. Most Turkish Kaffa Comes From Brazil. Robusto Coffee Isn’t For Everyone!! Well We Know One Thing This Has More Caffeine Than Your Average Cup Of Joe! |_|B Thanks Brave Guy!
Hey BODY! Great to see you! That does sound like some good ideas that I might have to try this weekend.
a dark hole of flavor….
what a non-earthly concoction would that be?
you are a Brave Guy Mike.
lol, thanks for the support! As far as coffees I’ve tried, I’ve had a lot worse than this one!
