Waking Up With The Singing Rooster
The Drink: Haitian Mountain Bleu from Singing Rooster
Type: Single Origin Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.75 Out Of 5 Coffee Mugs
Monday morning I didn’t want to get out of bed. It seemed like one of those Monday’s that had come too fast. Luckily, I had a Singing Rooster to wake me up. No not that kind of Singing Rooster, instead a single origin coffee from the Hatian Mountain Bleu region.
I was looking forward to this one for many reasons. It’s shade grown, grown with natural methods and fairly traded. Also, I’ve been trying to find a coffee from Haiti since their devastating earthquake and I’m excited because profits from this coffee goes back to help the Haitians.
According to their website, 100% of Singing Rooster’s efforts go back to Haiti. They import coffee from Haiti, sell it and provide direct assistance to rural coffee farming communities through interrelated grants for the sake of self-sustainability, dignity and economic autonomy. Learn more about their mission to help Haiti.
However, from past experiences, I know that coffee with good intentions, doesn’t always translate into good coffee.
Luckily, my worries faded away as I took a sniff of this coffee. The Singing Roster started off with a milk chocolate aroma that woke up my nose. Their were hints of freshly cut wood and a little bit of a nutty aroma.
My mouth and quickly my body woke up with the first sip. It had a strong, powerful flavor with a thick body. A lot of strong coffees lose a lot of their individual characteristics, but this one had a woody, earthy, chocolate flavor that was delicious on my tongue.
A 12 ounce bag of Haitian Mountain Bleu is $9 on the Singing Rooster website. (While you’re on their website, check out their coffee seedling program.)
Singing Rooster is a strong coffee that will get you up and going in the mornings, no questions asked. It earned a respectable and above average rating of 3.75 on the Daily Shot Of Coffee scale. If you like strong coffees, but still want flavor, check out this offering. It’s even a bonus that proceeds go to a good cause.

great use of adjectives Mike.
Thanks howard! I think for a lot of reasons Haitian coffee is hard to get a hold of, but luckily it’s becoming easier.
