What I’m Drinking – Mudslide Coffee From Port City Coffee Roasters

Port City Coffee Roasters - Mudslide
The Drink: Mudslide Coffee
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 cups

Over the last few weeks, I’ve struck up a repertoire with the crew at Port City Coffee Roaster of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It started out on Twitter and carried on to the Daily Shot Of Coffee blog. They’re Red Sox fans, but last week, I went ahead and ordered coffee from them anyways. They sent me a “care package” with four of their coffees, including their Mudslide coffee.

The coffee came in a thick brown paper bags that were biodegradable and earth friendly. It made me wish that more coffee roasters would use that kind of packaging.

Just opening up the bag, my nose filed up with delicious smells, a mix of chocolate with hints of cherries and strawberries. I couldn’t wait to brew some up.

Their Mudslide Coffee has a very smooth taste, followed by an explosion of different chocolates. It had everything from gooey-fudgey brownies, and rich melt-in-your-mouth Hershey Kisses to dark hot cocoas and even a hint of those really expensive Godiva chocolate things. It wasn’t an overwhelming chocolate taste, so it doesn’t hide the rich coffee flavor. It would be perfect for an after dinner treat or making Irish coffee.

There’s a lingering nutty coffee taste, that stayed on my tongue for more than a few minutes after each sip. It just didn’t want to go away and I’m not complaining.

This was one cup of coffee that I didn’t want to come to an end. Overall, it might be one of my favorite flavored coffees that I’ve had yet. It easily earned the four out of five rating.

As far as the company themselves, I like that they roast their coffee in small batches three times a week and have a variety of coffees from all over the world. They also had a diverse assortment flavored coffees with enticing sounding names like Apple Pie, Crème Brulee and of course the Mudslide.

If you’re in their area, they have a cafe where you can get their coffee, as well as breakfast and lunch. If the taste of their coffee and their service online is any indication of what their cafe is like, it’s a must visit if you’re in Portsmouth.

You can visit them online at http://www.portcitycoffee.com/, via twitter @portcitycoffee or in person at at 801 Islington Street in Portsmouth, NH.

So glad you liked it, Mike! (Even though you are a Yankees fan!)
Let me know what you think of the others. I really liked your description AND the fact that you appreciate our small batch roasting process.

I appreciate the coffee and can’t wait to try some more. I wish more places did small batch roasting, I can taste the difference.

The minute I read “Mudslide” I was already sold, the 4 out of 5 rating adds to it but the packaging along with the product name makes me want to try a cup right now.
