What I’m Drinking – Santa Anita De Costa Rica

Santa Anita De Costa Rica

The Drink – Santa Anita De Costa Rica
Type: Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5 cups

Today, I’m drinking a coffee from Java City called Santa Anita De Costa Rica. It’s part of their Eco-Grounds program, which promotes sustainable social ecological and economic models for the coffee’s production and trade. There’s something extra delicious about a coffee that comes company that takes their responsibility serious.

The beans come from a family owned and operated farm named Hacienda Santa Anita in the high-altitude region of Costa Rica called Naranjo. Java City decided to work with them because of their “great tasting beans,” but also because of their sustainable practices. This includes things like reducing their water use by choosing to depulp the coffee cherries through the aquapulp process, a process that uses only 5% of the water used in traditional depulping.

This coffee is also certified by the Rainforest Alliance.

But it’s not just how a coffee is made, more importantly is the taste. I’ve been very lucky to taste a lot of world class coffees over the past few weeks and this is another one that got the attention of my taste buds.

They describe it as “an incredibly fresh tasting coffee that brews a smooth cup with amazing balance, a hint of crisp apple pie aroma, and vanilla & spicy cinnamon notes.”

Along with the apple pie aroma, I also smelled chocolate coming from my coffee cup. The combination of the two woke up my nose.

But what really stood out about this coffee was the taste. It’s has a well balanced acidity, that is full of flavors. I tasted the vanilla and cinnamon, but there was also hints of pineapple. Maybe, I’ve been drinking too much coffee from Hawaii this week, but there was a definite pineapple taste to me.

It’s a medium roast with a full body that makes it very drinkable. Overall, it’s a very exciting every day kind of coffee. It’s the type of coffee that I would like to drink all day long. Plus, the price is great at only $8.99 for a 12 ounce bag, so it was easy to give it a 3.5 out of 5 rating.
