Colombia – Guiterrez Micro Lot, from a small family owned farm in a Tolima, a region of Southern Colombia between Cauca and Huila. It’s only 15 acres, four of which are dedicated to natural forest. There was only 260 pounds of coffee that came from this lot, making it one of the rarer coffees that I’ve tried.
Coffee Review rated it at a 95 and Paradise Roasters gave it a 94. ROASTe sent me a sample of this and after reading about it, I was honored to taste it.
The coffee has a sweet aroma, with hints of cedar, freshly cut grass and tomatoes.
It is a medium roast, but it had the flavor of a light roast. The initial taste reminded me of a mellow pasta taste, like a buttery spaghetti sauce. There’s a good chance that it’s just me and my taste buds, but that’s what I took away from the initial sips.
Once, I got over that phase and gave it a chance to cool down, it had a mix of chocolate and citrus tastes. There were also hints of maple syrup and pine.
There was a warm, lingering taste with hints of fruits and chocolate left on my tongue well after I took the sip.
It has a medium body, with a very smooth feel.
It’s a unique coffee, that’s probably isn’t for everyone. If you like darker roasts, you may not like it, however, I thought it was incredible coffee. Even with the other coffees that I’ve had from Paradise Roasters, it stood out with it’s remarkable flavors and taste.
It’s one of the better tasting coffees that I’ve had, a 4.5 out of 5 rating was only fair.
This coffee does run $33.33 a pound, which is a lot, but for special occasions it’s entirely worth it.
