What I’m Drinking – Lively Up! From Marley Coffee
The Drink: Lively Up! By Marley Coffee
Type: Whole Bean
Overall Rating: 3.5 Out Of 5
With the sounds of Bob Marley playing in the background, I’m continuing my journey around the world with the Lively Up! from Marley Coffee. It’s an organic five bean espresso with a nod to Marley’s song “Lively Up Yourself.”
Marley’s song is all about being the best that you can be and living life to the fullest. And the coffee really captures the song’s essence. It’s bold, full-bodied flavor will bring you to life, even in the darkest of mornings. “Hey, you lively up yourself, can you dig it?”
Steaming out from my cup was a rich coffee aroma with hints of caramel, cinnamon, and a maple syrup so decadent that I really thought it came directly out of a tree in Vermont.
From the initial sip, I could taste that it was a well-defined dark roast, perfect for espresso. Considering most dark roasts are bitter or even burnt tasting, this one was remarkably smooth and rich. Underneath the first notes of flavor, my tongue found small hints of butterscotch, caramel, toffee and sweet fruit.
The coffee left a rich, lingering taste on my tongue. The smooth flavor really stood out and didn’t want to leave my mouth.
I brewed Lively Up! with my French Press. The press created a delicious, almost lush, brew but because Lively Up! is such a deep, dark roast, I found myself really wishing I could brew it as espresso to get the complete experience, not just a cup of coffee. Unfortunately, my kitchen counter currently lacks an espresso machine, so that’ll have to wait for another time.
For my palate, it was a little too dark-roasted and full-bodied for every day drinking, especially first thing in the morning. But it made for a perfect homemade latte! I gave it a 3.5 out of 5 rating! I’m reserving the right to change the score, once I have a chance to try it in an espresso machine (hint, hint…).
You can buy Lively Up! at Marley Coffee for $16.99 a bag, with a percentage of all sales going to benefit the Marley Coffee Foundation. The non-profit organization helps children in coffee producing counties with community development projects including repairing soccer fields and putting on soccer camps.
The next stop on my journey is Jammin Java, an organic bold full city roast that I can’t wait to taste next week.

Oh wow the “Organic” is where it’s at, we have been on a big transition as of late to try to stick to everything Organic.
The flavor is always much better with Organic products and I love the last Marley coffee you reviewed.
Since I started exploring coffees more this year, I’ve really noticed the organic difference and not just in coffee, but in other foods all over the grocery store.
