What I’m Drinking: McDonald’s Vanilla Iced Coffee
by Mike on March 30, 2009 in Coffee Reviews
On my way to work this morning, I stopped at McDonald’s. I definitely wasn’t going there for their breakfast because it definitely left something to be desired, instead my main reason that I was there was to try their new McCafe. I was inspired partially by Coffeerama who has blogged about McDonald’s coffee a lot lately. Plus, I’ve been hearing a lot about how McDonald’s, along with Dunkin Donuts are fighting to take a part of the coffee market from Starbucks.
McDonald’s entry into the competition is the McCafe, a whole line of products that look remarkably similar to a lot of Starbucks products.
Anyways, this morning I tried the Vanilla Iced Coffee. From the very first sip, there was a strong vanilla taste. I know that McDonald’s has had iced vanilla drinks in the past, but this one is a definite attempt to take it to the next level. For me, it was almost a little too sweet, but it has that “drinkability” factor.
Of course, comparisons have to made to Starbucks. It’s definitely similar to the Starbucks’ Iced Vanilla Latte. The Vanilla Latte is one of my favorite drinks at Starbucks in the summer and I have to say I like the taste of it better than the new McDondald’s Vanilla Iced Coffee. The Starbucks Latte definitely has more flavor and the McDonald’s Iced Coffee was just a little too light on taste for me.
Overall, it’s definitely not the best coffee, but it gets the job done.
