What I’m Drinking – Rain Forest Crunch from Port City Coffee Roasters

Port City Coffee RoastersThe Drink: Rain Forest Crunch from Port City Coffee Roasters
Type: Whole bean
Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5 cups

I usually avoid desserts and other foods that have the word “crunch” in it, because they usually include some form of nuts and I’m allergic to just about everything. However, that wasn’t going to stop me from trying the Rain Forest Crunch flavored coffee from the Port City Coffee Roasters. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable cup of coffee.

They use natural flavoring and premium South American coffee beans to make their flavored coffee. I can taste the difference compared to some flavored coffees that I’ve tried in the past.

The Rain Forest Crunch tasted like a mix of hazelnut and vanilla with some nutty flavor. It had a very balanced taste with none of the flavors drowning out the others. I also tasted hints of an earthy flavor and I know that doesn’t sound attractive, but it really added to this coffee in a positive way.

It’s a thick, full body kind of coffee and I’m going to steal from Jason Coffee to say that it reminded me of a liquid like whole milk, which is how I like my coffee, instead of a thinner two percent.

There was a bold, fresh taste that woke me up from my afternoon drowsiness. With the balanced flavor, I could see it being an everyday kind of coffee. As it cooled down, there was more of a chocolate, nutty kick, so it’s perfect for dessert too.

Thanks to my lovely allergies (pollen, not anything to do with this coffee) my nose is a little clogged right now, so the only way that I can describe the aroma is coffee like. I know that’s not at all helpful, so I’ll update this post when I can give a better description.

I gave it a 3.5 rating, but I think it could easily go up to a four once my nose gets it’s sense of smell back.

Yeah, I think the quality of the coffee beans stands out compared to some of the other flavored coffees I’ve tried.
