The Drink: Starbucks Cappuccino
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 cups
The first drink that I ever tried at Starbucks was their cappuccino, I must have liked it because over a decade later I still go back to Starbucks on a very frequent basis. The last cappuccino I had was from McDonald’s and it was acceptable, but it wasn’t great. I’d say the same thing about the Starbucks version.
The Starbucks Cappuccino had a deeper more intense flavor, but I wouldn’t say that I was impressed or blown away by it. Overall, the taste was more smooth and drinkable but the espresso was a little too neutral. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great.
While I was there, I picked up one of their breakfast sandwiches. I thought it was a good time to try one before they start changing up their food menu.
I tried the Artisan Bacon Sandwich, which they describe as a bakery-style sandwich made with a parmesan egg frittata, four smoked bacon slices, and Gouda cheese on a baked, artisan roll.
The price was $3.95 and combined with my cappuccino the total was over seven bucks. It was good, actually it was delicious, but I don’t see myself spending that much every morning for breakfast. At their competitor, I can buy a coffee, a breakfast sandwich and a hash brown for about half the price, of course the taste is about half as good. Or I could always make my own breakfast and coffee and get better tasting food and coffee for even less at home.
I can think of a lot of ways that they can improve their food menu. I’d keep it simple and focus on things like blueberry muffins and yogurt parfaits, instead of trying to become a full service kitchen and stop trying to compete with the fast food places down the street.
And Starbucks, sorry to be so down on you today. I think the back to back beatings the Yankees have received from the Red Sox have really left me devastated this week.
