Yankees Outfielder Blames Coffee For His Poor Performance

While I was looking for articles for my weekly coffee news round up, Fresh Brews, I came across this story, Damon cuts caffeine, back in lineup: Outfielder hopeful that less coffee will help ‘fluttering eyes.’
Last Thursday, when the Yankees were playing their rivals the Boston Red Sox, a Yankees outfielder named Johnny Damon fumbled and dropped a routine popup. Damon has been under performing in the field, at bat and this error in the outfield was a perfect example of it. Luckily, the Red Sox weren’t able to take advantage of the error, but they did go on to beat the Yankees.
Not really, the kind of story you’d expect on a coffee blog, but Damon and the Yankees are blaming his subpar performance on the poor, defenseless coffee he drinks. He only drinks three coffees or energy drinks to get him going, but the Yankees medical staff have ordered him to cut back on his caffeine intake. He’s been complaining that his eyes fluttering and they think caffeine might be the cause.
I hope it works, but on Saturday he had a caffeine headache and went 0-4 (which, is very bad) in the Yankees loss to their other rival, the New York Mets. If he doesn’t show some improvement today, I think he should start drinking more coffee.

Thats pretty funny, all though I can see where it could be something silly like that causing the issue.
Since the Mets lost, you may have noticed that he did a lot better today, so maybe he was drinking too much coffee and caffeine.
Blaming Coffee for bad performance, this is hilarious. I have found so many articles including ones I have published myself that say coffee is awesome for physical endurance and better concentration.
Maybe, I guess we will see with time.
It’s not the coffee, it’s the fact that he left the Red Sox…karma, baby.
Jason – For me, I’ve noticed that a cup of coffee will actually help me focus more during my workouts and I feel it increases my endurance.
Tara – If the Red Sox want him back, I’m sure the Yankees would be willing to make a deal!
They’d have to pay US now for him!
It sounds like something the Yankees could afford.
Hey kids, don’t try this at home (or in Little League), but Johnny Damon played better after doing shots of Jack Daniel’s with Kevin Millar during the 2004 ALCS. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/6384936/
Great find Alex. I wonder what would’ve happened if he tried the Jack Daniel’s coffee.
